Licensed Professional Counselor
Amanda Furman is a Licensed Professional Counselor having received her BS in Psychology with a minor in Studio Art at the University of Arkansas and then received her Master’s of Science in Art Therapy at Emporia State University in Kansas. She has worked in the mental health field providing art therapy along with traditional “talk” therapy in various capacities since 2003, including inpatient hospitals, community support and intensive in-home services, and outpatient therapy addressing a wide variety of issues (i.e. trauma, anger management, relationships, parenting, and others) . She believes in creating a personalized approach (including utilization of techniques from art therapy, solution-focused, person and family centered, cognitive-behavioral, and Yalom therapeutic models) for each of the children, adolescents, and adults served. Amanda believes in empowering the client to create a treatment plan that addresses his/her specific needs and utilizes that client’s unique strengths, all done at a comfortable pace. By empowering the client from the beginning, along with therapeutic guidance, he/she can develop the skills and confidence needed to address future issues. Amanda offers art therapy, when appropriate, to further optimize possibilities for insight and processing, as well as developing new tools for expression of thoughts and feelings in ways traditional therapy may not be able to bring about.
