Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
Kathleen is a North Carolina Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#1387). She holds a Masterís degree in counseling psychology, with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy, from National University in San Diego, California. She provides counseling to individuals, couples, and families.
Kathleen began her professional counseling experience as a Child Development Counselor at San Diego Center for Children, a residential facility for children with severe emotional and behavioral disturbances. Many of the children who resided here had experienced abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. Using mainly behavioral modification techniques, Kathleen worked with these children to help decrease high-risk behaviors, hyperactivity, aggressiveness, defiance, and increase overall self-esteem and daily living skills. While pursuing her graduate degree, Kathleen worked for First Avenue Counseling Centre, where she specialized in couple counseling, individual therapy with adults, anger management, and parental skills training.
For the past four years, Kathleen has been providing in-home and office-based therapy to children, teenagers, adults and couples. She has worked with a broad range of issues, including ADHD, defiance, depression, anxiety, bereavement, family separation, bullying, marital troubles, codependency, legal involvement, and adjustment issues. Kathleen specializes in marriage therapy and couples counseling and has extensive experience counseling individual adults, children, and adolescents.

Brian Spillman, Phd - Continued...
Brianís greatest joy in providing therapy is witnessing people begin to develop an attitude of defiance toward their self-limitations, and come to view themselves as competent and personally effective. Assessments and evaluations are done on an infrequent basis for selected issues. Consultation with other professionals is available as they pass through the training process, and encounter writing blocks while completing large writing assignments such as dissertations or theses. Groups offered have included stress management, depression recovery, parenting education, Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programming for chemically dependent persons, and wellness support. Dr. Spillman participates on a variety of insurance panels and provides services on a sliding scale basis as appropriate.
In his spare time, Brian enjoys looking for sea shells at the ocean, learning about craftsman furniture and architecture, hiking, reading, and spending time with his wife and daughters. He joined Lifescapes Counseling Associates in April, 2010 after relocating from Knoxville, TN. Please call for an appointment or to ask for more information.
